National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) creates an Industry-University-Institute Platform with other four universities to establish NTHU Five College Consortium.
NTHU, with support from Industry-University-Institute Platform of Science and Technology Ministry, establishes NTHU Five College Alliance. On January 27, 2021, NTHU signs a letter of intent with National Chengchi University (NCCU), Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU), Feng Chia University (FCU) and Tamkang University (TKU) to build a cutting-edge technology team through complementary expertise integration of the five schools, to promote industry-academia collaboration meeting industry needs. This team also connects Taiwanese enterprises and Taiwanese academia to joint investment of forward-looking technology research and development, and advocates various types of thematic industry-academia collaboration in order to foster industrialization of scientific research results and further enhance substantive exchange of research and teaching between the universities.
NTHU President HOCHENG Hong says, just as we often hear Chinese auspicious greetings beginning with character five, like five blessings in a row and five generations with prosperity and as most plum blossoms in NTHU Plum Blossom Garden are with five petals, we are confident that union force of the five universities will make great accomplishments.
Professor HSIEH Ming-Hua of Risk Management and Insurance at NCCU believes that NCCU can provide collaboration experience of financial business management as it has been maintaining industry-university collaboration with the financial industry for years. He also thinks highly of NTHU’s strong technology R&D power of and hopes to strengthen exchanges with NTHU after joining the NTHU Five College Consortium, to boost R&D energy of NCCU.
Vice President SHIA Ben-Chang of FJCU expects FJCU to be a new force in industry-university collaboration. He hopes FJCU can increase its collaboration strength and international links by learning from other member schools, and then make practical contributions to the consortium.
President LEE Bing-Jean of FCU states that FCU has made renowned achievements in national defense, livelihood and other strategic core industries. FCU can be a good base to introduce school technical resources to local enterprises, so as to enrich industry power in central Taiwan.
Vice President HO Chii-Dong of TKU regards over 270 thousand TKU alumni as strong support of the consortium, to link contacts in industries and transfer the links into actual collaboration between industries and universities, thereby to lead the industries.
The NTHU Five College Consortium will devote itself strategic service to boost number of industry-academia cases, to protect and promote technology patent transfer, to foster high-level talents, and to coach and raise funds for new start-up teams. It aims to improve service effectiveness amid the five schools. Through establishment of an organic community network and systematic platform, the five schools can efficiently share and use resources and link domestic alliance with the world, to ultimately realize one sustainable alliance.
